Sunny Haven Residential Services
"Inspiring a Brighter Future"
Group Home Services
At Sunny Haven, our Group Home Services provide safe, supportive, and comfortable living environments for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves a home where they feel valued, empowered, and part of a community. Our homes are much more than just places to live—they are places where individuals can grow, gain independence, and experience a true sense of belonging.

Sunny Haven partners with Providers from across Virginia who open their homes to individuals and operate under our license. These homes are selected and maintained to ensure they offer a warm, welcoming, and family-like environment—never institutional or clinical in feel. Whether it’s sharing a meal at the kitchen table, planting flowers in the yard, or simply enjoying a movie night with housemates, our group homes provide a rich and fulfilling everyday life.

A Place to Belong:
Sunny Haven operates several small, family-style group homes across many areas of Virginia, including Harrisonburg, Rockingham, Lexington, Buena Vista, Staunton, Augusta County, Waynesboro, Stuarts Draft, Churchville, Goshen, Amherst, Madison Heights, Forest, Bedford, Monroe, Lynchburg, and Goode. Each home typically serves three to four individuals, which allows for a personalized and peaceful environment where relationships can grow naturally. Bedrooms are decorated according to each person’s tastes, and individuals are encouraged to make their space their own. Common areas are shared with housemates and include kitchens, living rooms, dining areas, and outdoor spaces.

Daily routines are built around individual preferences, with flexibility for personal activities and interests. From preparing a favorite breakfast to celebrating birthdays and holidays together, our homes are filled with connection and community. Our staff actively work to foster friendships, encourage participation, and create positive shared experiences in the home.

Program Oversight:
Every group home is assigned a dedicated Program Manager who works closely with the Program Director, the Provider, families, support coordinators or case managers, and the individuals themselves. This collaborative approach ensures each home operates smoothly, follows regulatory standards, and most importantly, reflects the needs and values of the people who live there. Our Program Managers are actively involved in team meetings, support planning, problem-solving, and ongoing quality improvement efforts. They serve as the primary point of contact for all involved and are deeply committed to ensuring a safe, respectful, and enriching environment. Program Managers visit each group home at least once a month to provide in-person oversight, support Providers, and ensure that quality standards and individual needs are consistently being met.

Person-Centered Living:
Our approach to care is grounded in person-centered principles. Every individual supported in our group homes has a Person-Centered Plan that is informed by their Individual Support Plan (ISP), developed in collaboration with the individual, their family, support coordinator, and clinical professionals. These plans outline strengths, preferences, desired outcomes, routines, and needed supports.
We recognize that every person is unique, and we honor those differences by listening, adapting, and providing supports that align with each individual’s goals and lifestyle. Whether someone needs help preparing meals, attending community activities, or building life skills, our dedicated staff are here to provide encouragement and structure every step of the way.

We also support regular team meetings, family involvement, and consistent communication to ensure each individual’s needs are met with compassion, respect, and accountability. At Sunny Haven, person-centered living means more than just planning—it’s a way of life.
